Nice trackball of classic design. Standard Cortron trackball module (labeled Part # 530-0032) mounted in the black-painted aluminum desktop case. Interestingly, the case is sealed with silicone - despite there's some holes, preventing it from being water-tight. The switches beneath the buttons are also sealed with pieces of transparent plastic film glued to the case. Also, transparent plastic ring is added between the ball and upper cover, serving as a debris protection. I've removed it, to provide free ball movement.
The shafts are double-cone shaped, ball bearings used are NHBB USA SSR-2ZZ. Bearings are of serviceable type, easy to clean and re-lubricate. Controller is Cypress CY7C63723-PC, signals from Omron EE-SX1025 sensors are rectified with 74HC14N Schmitt trigger. Switches are square 12x12mm DTSM-21 type, with additional shafts connecting them to the buttons. On the bottom, additional toggle switch made by Switchcraft Inc. is mounted, used to select right-hand/left-hand operation. Upper button is MMB, and lower middle button is click-lock. Calculated resolution is 377 PPR (60 CPI). Polling rate is 125 Hz.
The device is of very high quality, movement feel is perfect. Button clicks are soft & easy, and overall impression is quite good. Cortron (formerly, a division of Illinois Tool Works Inc.) is supplying the trackballs mostly to the military and industrial customers, but this model works just fine as common desktop pointing device. There's also 6-button variant, as well as LED-backlight versions.
